Often those doing the work no longer see the hazards or weakness that creeps into their safety systems. TJ uses a “Readiness Review” that examines a project and their programs against the minimum (OSHA) requirements and then against generally accepted industry practices. That review highlights where the current program is excelling (what you do well) and where you are failing to meet the safe site your client, the Owner and the Insurer has promised the worker. These audits involve a site walk with the most senior leadership including conversations with those overseeing the project and trades doing the work.
This “walk” gauges the engagement of the decision makers and feedback from the workers on the true character of the worksite. Is it a great place to work or not? Is the client happy? Are the workers happy? That’s a question that will be raised later with the client. The final report is presented to the entire site team and any contractor representatives. Items of concerns, things that are going great and some suggestions on changes in work practices or tools that will make the work easier. The goal is to recognize what is going well and areas of focus to make the worksite more lean, the work more efficient and the workers happy to be there. This style audit using what TJ calls “design interventions” focuses on production, efficiency and schedule savings and will provide a safer site by default.
